Satellites & the vegetation

Nowadays, there are many satellites orbiting the Earth that observe our planet for different purposes. Some make meteorological observations, others are for military purposes, and some are like Sentinel-2, which allows tracking of changes in terrestrial vegetation.

Spring is one of the most spectacular periods of vegetation change. The shots were taken a year ago on April 20, 2019. The RGB picture shows how the lower areas of the Bükk mountain are covered with fresh, green vegetation, while on the Bükk-Plateau is no sign of spring. This is also perfectly illustrated on the vegetation index (NDVI) map, where the plateau is separated from the surrounding areas by a yellow colour. However, completely vegetation-free areas can be observed at the foot of the mountains, on arable land where spring-sown plants have not begun to emerge.
